Hey, Matt here,

Note: this a Canon 60D review though, if you’re looking to buy Canon 60D then click here.
Why am I writing this? Well, when I was thinking about buying the Canon 60D, there weren’t many real reviews around so I thought I’d write one quickly to help any of you who are in the same position I was.
Canon has well established its name with DSLR cameras. Gaining the interest from the greater part of the DSLR market over its major competitors like Nikon and Sony, amateurs or hobbyists, semi-pros and professionals alike are catered well enough based on their specific needs in a camera. Now, Canon has done it again as it released its new EOS 60D model. A Canon 60D review will show how this particular model sits half way between a highly costly and professional Canon model (EOS 7D) and the highly specced entry-level DSLR model Rebel T2i (EOS 550D) for first time enthusiasts.

From the name itself, Canon EOS 60D can be easily regarded as a continuation of the EOS X0D series which include 30D, 40D and 50D models but that’s not necessarily true. Try to review Canon 60D features and uses and you can see that this new release has a different target and purpose instead of a typical continuation of the series. The EOS X0D series were developed aimed at gaining interest from keen amateurs, semi-pros and professionals longing to achieve the best quality in pictures and at the same time within the budget range of most clients. The 50D model in particular was said to be a sister-model of the previously released EOS 40D with some newly improved features. But apparently, EOS 50D turned out to be an expensive camera that is confusingly outdated compared to the EOS 550D in more ways than one and totally inferior to EOS 7D. Canon EOS 60D was created instead to balance out the huge gap that lies between the Rebel and 7D.
Based on a Canon 60D review, this model stayed away from magnesium alloy shell and use light weight plastic construction resulting to a reduced body weight. This model also have significantly improved features compared to the 550D such as top panel LCD, higher burst rate and rear control dial. It also incorporated some functions similar to that of a 7D. Some of Canon 60D specs and features are listed as follows:
- Sensor resolution up to 18MP
- 1080p HD movie capture with manual controls
- Has an ISO that ranges from 100-6,400 an can be expanded up to 12,800
- 5.3 fps continuous shooting
- Uses SD / SDHC / SDXC for storage instead of CF memory cards
- It has a fully articulated 3.0″ LCD display 3:2 ratio that is video and tripod friendly, a first in Canon DSLR
- Wireless speedlight control
- New “Ambience Selection” for subject modes and the effect can be previewed on screen in Live View
- It has the ability to convert raw files into jpeg format in-camera
- Creative filters which can be used retrospectively to the shots you’ve taken
Among the EOS X0D models, 60D is the first to have a movie mode. If set on manual mode, you can have full manual control for aperture, shutter speed and ISO level. Because of the fully articulated LCD display, it makes video recording more convenient and a lot easier. Video resolution could reach up to 1080p however you still have the option to choose smaller resolutions. By using the crop 480 mode, your camera will crop out 640 x 480 pixels from the center of the 18MP sensor to obtain 480p. A Canon 60D review video shows that the quality of the videos using 60D is somehow similar to that of videos using 7D.
As a whole, Canon 60D turned out to be a pretty great upgrade for Rebel users that closely compares to 7D. Although 7D have numerous advantages over 60D, still it is a close second to a highly advanced, highly professional camera. 60D has appealed to many enthusiasts and amateur photographers alike because it gives them the ability to deliver professional shots and enjoy features that their previous cameras failed to provide. Also, anyone who is just starting out in photography can also enjoy the interesting features this product is offering and which they can rely on in terms of features and picture quality. The video mode is an added bonus. Plus, the Canon 60D price tag is somehow significantly lower than the other EOS X0Ds. Well, this is something that any potential camera buyers will be thankful for.
